The Dark Side of the Force

I am, and shall forever be known as….a traitor. The days of lugging around 500+ page books *AHEM!!!*George-RR-Martin*AHEM!!!* are finally over. For the past few years I have thrown out every conceivable excuse to not make the switch to ebooks. “I can buy second-hand books cheap.” “I love the smell of books.” “They’re my friends!!!” and the ever popular, “Could I bludgeon an attacker with an ebook and leave them unconscious? Noooooo? Thought not!!”

Alas, of all of the reasons to switch to ebooks - cheaper than hard copies, good for the environment, by extension good for the tree huggers because prying them from their true love is hard work for a logger, can share books online, an ebook reader is far lighter than a regular book, blah blah blah…. - the reason I decided to switch, is because I have finally realized that I can no longer make room for more books. I literally have covered every space, every nook [pun intended] and cranny and wall with books. I stand in the cavern of paper bricks that I call my room and I fear for my life if there is an earthquake.

I debated for a long time between getting a Nook or a Kindle. Both sound warm and inviting and everything that encompasses a bookophile’s wet dream. I ended up going with the Nook because their format is universal, I’m a slave to Barnes and Noble’s cheap unusual stuffs, most of my friends have Nooks so we can share, but mainly it was because my friend who works at B&N talked me into it.

And of course, because she talked me into it, I had to buy the most expensive one. The Nook Tablet….

Nook Tablet

Spidey knows Nook is a star!!!

Anyway, it’s been about a month since I’ve bought the damned thing and I have to admit….totally beats the pants off of having a bookalanche. Not only can I find and dl my favorite books, but I can borrow from libraries [squee!], watch Netflix, play Plants VS. Zombies for the bajillionth time, occasionally find a gem in the free book section, and catch up on all of the comics I’ve been too poor to buy. I figure the money I save on gas driving to the book store goes towards more comics.

Come to the Dark Side….we have cookies and books and more books, oh my.
